Find out the different sizes of rings

First, rings come in a variety of sizes. In England, rings are on the A-Z scale and are measured in terms of their inner circumference and ring diameter. Ring size A has a circumference of 37.8 mm and Z 68.5 mm.

It hardly differs from international standards. Therefore, be careful when buying rings. UK and Australia use the same character scale while other countries use the numbered scale. You can view our conversion table if you need to draw the British equivalent for rings from another country.

Ring Size

Did you buy a gift? When designing your ring size, keep in mind the following to ensure you get the most accurate measurement:

Make sure your fingers are warm before taking measurements as they are about half their size when cold.

When it’s hot, your fingers may be slightly enlarged. Take several readings at different times of the day for best overall fit.

Pay attention to the shape of your fingers – the width of your knuckles, for example, can affect the size of the ring that suits you best. You can order an in-store consultation or online to discuss any sizing issues with our team.

Measuring your own ring size

  • Wrap the meat at the base of your finger
  • Use a pen to mark the wires at the junctions
  • Measure the length from the end of the string to the ruler mark with a ruler to find your thickness
  • Match this to your ring size in the size chart!

Option 2

  • Reprint the A4 paper formatting guide and scale it up to 100 percent
  • Cut the sizing tool and make a gap along the line in the sizing section, read here
  • Place the tool around the base of your finger and pull the tip through the slot
  • Fasten it through the tongue like a buckle
  • Pull it against your finger
  • Make sure you can comfortably slide the tool onto your ankle

How to measure your partner’s finger

Planning a surprise proposal? Or perhaps you want to surprise a family member or friend with a new ring for their birthday or over the festive season? Luckily, there are a few ways to figure out someone’s ring size without spoiling the surprise.

The easiest and most accurate way of gauging someone’s ring size is to borrow a ring they already wear on their ring finger and take it into store. Be careful not to pinch a ring they wear on a daily basis though – they’ll just worry that they’ve lost it, and you might have to reveal your secret sooner than you’d planned. Go for a ring that they wear frequently (so you know it fits and is comfortable), but won’t immediately call out a search party to find if they notice it’s missing.

If you really can’t smuggle any of your loved one’s rings away to a shop, see if you can borrow one for long enough to use our ring sizing tool. You could also borrow it for just long enough to press into a bar of soap. Then you can use the imprint on the soap to measure the ring size. This will still give you a good idea of the size you need to buy, and it won’t cause any missing ring meltdowns.

If they’re a particularly heavy sleeper, you could get away with using string to measure their finger. Take a piece of string and wrap it around their ring finger, marking the place where the ends join with a pen. Stealthily remove the string and take it to your jeweller for the perfect fit!

Finally, if your proposal isn’t completely out of the blue, or you want to ensure your family member receives a ring they’re truly happy with, you could pop into a jewellers together to browse and try on a few rings. As well as figuring out their size, it’s a great way of getting a feel for what style they’d like the best. Remember to take notes.
